Senior Mechanical Engineer - 24-012 - San Diego, California


AUSGAR Technologies has a new opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members working in the Point Loma area of San Diego, California.


Support NIWC PAC Radiation Detection, Implementation and Computation (RADIAC) program. RADIAC develops new radiation detection capabilities and supports the transition to field users. Mechanical engineering is essential to ensuring these systems survive in harsh environments and operate on various platforms. A critical element of this program's success is rapidly prototyping new radiation detection systems and then iteratively testing and refining the design. Successful projects transition into low-rate system production and sustainment. Support NIWC PAC Radiation Detection, Implementation and Computation (RADIAC) program.   • Provide mechanical designs to refine requirements, bound trade space and obtain stakeholder input.
  • Support rapid prototyping of new radiation detection systems including housings, mounting, pressure vessels and integration onto manned and unmanned platforms.
  • Support testing and evaluation of emerging capabilities including performance, environmental and usability testing.
  • Support low-rate production with designing for manufacturability, documentation and process improvement.
  • Assist in updating documentation for system and program technical descriptions.
  • Provide frequent updates to client and team throughout the life cycle of projects.
Requirements

  • Active secret clearance required or ability to obtain one.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university and 10+ years of related work experience required.
  • Experience leading a small technical team in the development and engineering of customer requirements.
  • Experience conducting analysis of testing output, which includes the review, evaluation, determination and recommendations of appropriate actions to resolve quality deficiency required.
  • Experience conducting research; prototype design; evaluation, prototype, developmental, qualification and operational evaluation, testing, product engineering, electronics integration, test fixture design and prototyping, value engineering and systems integration required.
  • Experience with 3D parts printing.
  • SolidWorks/SolidEdge experience to include 3D printing designs drafted from the software.
  • Familiarity with use and analysis of results of Valgrind.
  • Familiarity with carbon fiber fabrication techniques desired.
  • Familiarity with radiation detectors desired.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Expected travel: 10%

Salary range: $120-150K


An essential qualification for this position is successfully obtaining a security clearance issued by the Federal Government, which may require successful completion of a background check.


AUSGAR's salary range is dependent upon a variety of factors, which include experience, skills, education, certifications and geographical location. Our salary range includes a base salary and excellent benefits package as part of our total compensation.
